RESTRICTION SUMMARY: APAwire CLIENTS ONLY SHOTLIST: APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Ramallah – August 26, 2021. The Israeli authorities released Lian Nasser, 21, student at Birzeit University, who had been detained since last July. STORYLINE: Two days ago, the Israeli authorities announced the postponement of Nasser's trial until the fifth of next month. Nasser was arrested from her home in Ramallah on the seventh of last July. Eleven mothers out of 40 Palestinian women prisoners are currently held at Israeli jails. According to the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), the number of Palestinians being kept under administrative detention orders currently stands at 540. Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing. Over the years, Israel has placed thousands of Palestinians in administrative detention for prolonged periods of time, without trying them, without informing them of the charges against them, and without allowing them or their counsel to examine the evidence. Palestinian detainees have continuously resorted to open-ended hunger strikes as a way to protest their illegal administrative detention and to demand an end to this policy which violates international law.
