RESTRICTION SUMMARY: APAwire CLIENTS ONLY SHOTLIST: APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Hebron - 22 August 2023. Israeli security forces man a checkpoint at the closed-off southern entrance of Hebron city in the West Bank, near the Israeli settlement of Beit Haggi (background) where a settler killed a day earlier in a shooting attack resided. 0.1 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Salah Qawar, A palestinian Citizen 0.2 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Hamza Al-Zero, A palestinian Citizen 0.3 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Tayseer Abu Sneineh, Mayor of Hebron STORYLINE: Several Palestinians suffocated this evening during confrontations with Israeli military forces in the town of Beit Ummar, north of the southern occupied district of Hebron, according to local activist Mohammed Awwad. The activist said Israeli forces manning a checkpoint at the entrance of the said town prevented a funeral procession from reaching the town’s cemetery and closed the iron gate erected at the entrance, leading to confrontations. Israeli forces reportedly took over the rooftops of several Palestinian-owned homes and commercial shops and attacked residents with tear gas canisters, causing several people to suffocate. In the meantime, Israeli forces placed flying checkpoints at the entrances of the towns of Hahul and Beit Kahl to the north and northwest of Hebron, respectively, obstructing residents’ movement.
