RESTRICTION SUMMARY: APAwire CLIENTS ONLY SHOTLIST: APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Hebron - 28 May 2022. Palestinians take part in a protest in solidarity with prisoner on hunger strike Khalil Awawdeh, in the West Bank city of Hebron. 0.1 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Muhammad Awawdeh, The father of the prisoner Khalil Awawdeh. STORYLINE: Khalil Awawda, an administrative detainee in Israeli jails, announced a hunger strike since 87 days. Two Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli prisons are currently on hunger strike for 87 and 52 days in a row in protest of their unfair administrative detention without a charge or trial, according to the Detainees Affairs Commission. More than 450 Palestinian detainees have been refusing to show up for their military court hearings for 146 days in protest of their unfair detention without charge or trial under Israel’s controversial administrative detention policy. The boycott includes hearings for the renewal of administrative detention orders as well as appeal hearings and latter sessions at Israel’s Supreme Court. Palestinian detainees say their action is a continuation of longstanding Palestinian efforts to put an end to the unjust administrative detention practiced against our people by the Israeli occupation forces. Under administrative detention, Israel keeps Palestinians without charge for up to six months, a period which can be extended for an indefinite number of times. Women and minors are also among those detainees. The detention takes place on orders from a military commander and on the basis of what the Israeli regime describes as ‘secret’ evidence. Some prisoners have been held in administrative detention for up to 11 years. Footage by / APAwire
