Palestinian farmers collect Apricot during a harvest season, in the West Bank city of Salfit 0.1 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) The owner of the farm, Murad Al-Qarwani STORYLINE: apricot, (Prunus armeniaca), fruit tree of the rose family (Rosaceae), cultivated throughout the temperate regions of the world, especially in the Mediterranean. Apricots are closely related to peaches, almonds, plums, and cherries (see also Prunus). They are eaten fresh or cooked and are preserved by canning or drying. The fruit is also widely made into jam and is often used to flavour liqueurs. Apricots are a good source of vitamin A and are high in natural sugar. Dried apricots are an excellent source of iron. Salfit is perhaps best known for its ‘green revolution’; the move to cultivate much land for agricultural purposes, providing fruit and vegetables to the surrounding villages and towns Footage by /APA
