Palestinian men work on bamboo furniture at workshop in Gaza city. 0.1 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Tariq Khalaf STORYLINE: Khalaf's grandparents started the bamboo industry in 1929 in Jaffa, and after immigrating to the Gaza Strip, they continued their work in 1953, and work in bamboo continues to this day. Bamboo has a long history of use in furniture. Bamboo is a product of southeast Asian countries and before the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, Gaza traders used to bring it in to the coastal territory in adequate quantities to allow the industry to remain viable.
