Palestinian graduates work on a small cafe "Tomanco", on the beach of the Mediterranean sea in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip. 01.SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Graduated, Moamen Tuman STORYLINE: Palestinian Abu Shadi Toman opened a small cafe on the beach of the Mediterranean sea with his four graduate sons, who did not find work after graduating from the university, to attract customers, in an attempt to address the difficult economic reality of the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian economy has witnessed low growth rates that are unable to cope with population growth, leading to increased unemployment and deteriorating living conditions.” The beach is one of the few open public spaces in this densely populated city. Unemployment rate in the Gaza Strip is still among the highest in the world. After it reached 23.6% in 2005, in 2020, it reached 49%, while the per capita share of the GDP shrank by 27%.
