APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Nablus– 10 June 2021. Palestinian protesters burn tires against the settlers storming of Joseph's tomb, in the West Bank city of Nablus.
STORYLINE
Israeli forces attacked Palestinians in the West Bank city of Nablus early Thursday.
Israeli troops intensively used tear gas to make way for the entry of Jewish settlers into the area around Joseph's Tomb, a mausoleum in Nablus.
Later, Israeli forces attacked Palestinians with rubber bullets and tear gas.
Joseph's Tomb is regarded as a holy place by Jews, who believe that Prophet Joseph's bones were brought from Egypt and buried there.
Palestinian archeologists, however, say the mausoleum has a history of only a few centuries and is a monument to a local scholar named Sheikh Yousif Dwaykat, not Prophet Joseph.
