APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Sebastia- 30 March 2021. Israeli security members clash with Palestinian demonstrators commemorating land day and protesting settler visits to archaeological and historical sites in the Palestinian village of Sebastia, northwest of Nablus in the occupied West Bank
01.SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ahmed Abu Rahma
01.SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abdullah Abu Rahma, head of the Settlement Resistance Commission
STORYLINE
The town is considered the largest archaeological site in Palestine, and it has a special religious status. Archeologists stress that despite the occupation’s claim that its roots have existed in this village three thousand years ago, the Canaanites were before this date and established their civilization there four thousand years ago.
Palestinians every year mark Land Day on March 30 commemorating the six Palestinians shot and killed by Israeli police and the dozens others injured on that day in 1976 when they rallied against government plans to seize 21,000 dunums (21 square kilometers) of their lands, and to illustrate Palestinian adherence to the land of their ancestors
