Ismail Haniya, Palestinian Prime Minister in the Gaza Strip, attends an open air morning prayer to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in Khan Yunis town the southern Gaza Strip on August 30, 2011. The Palestinian Territories, along with other neighboring and Gulf states, announced that today is the first day of the fast-breaking festival of Eid al-Fitr. The three-day festival, which begins after the sighting of a new crescent moon, marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, during which devout Muslims abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex from dawn to dusk.
