A Palestinian man holds old iron keys symbolizing the homes people lost in 1948 when the Jewish state of Israel was created, on May 11, 201 in the West Bank Qalandia refugee camp near Jerusalem, during a preparation to mark the 63rd anniversary of the "Nakba" (catastrophe). Nakba means "catastrophe" in reference to the birth of the state of Israel 63 years ago in British-mandate Palestine, which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who either fled or were driven out of their homes during the 1948 war over Israel's creation.
