In February 2024, al-Dahdouh underwent an emergency cesarean section without anesthesia under Israeli bombardment, with medical staff relying on mobile phone flashlights amid a shortage of basic medical equipment. Her newborn son, Abdul Hadi, later died after being admitted to an incubator at Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip. On September 5, 2024, an Israeli airstrike targeted her family home, killing her eldest son, Mutasim, and several relatives. Her husband, Yasser Radi, died of his wounds on September 15, 2024. Al-Dahdouh has worked as an emergency medical volunteer since 2014. According to the United Nations, women now head approximately one in four households in Gaza, while shortages of medicines, fuel and medical supplies continue to threaten essential healthcare services.
