The remains were recently recovered from beneath the rubble of their homes, which were destroyed in an Israeli strike earlier in the war. Gaza's Civil Defense said its crews recovered the remains of 112 people during a two-week operation in the residential area where the two families lived, which it said was hit in an Israeli airstrike on November 23, 2023. The Civil Defense estimates that more than 9,000 people remain missing or buried beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings across the Gaza Strip.
