STORYLINE: The Zaatra family in Jabal al-Mukaber, south of Jerusalem, demolished three of its homes after receiving final demolition orders from the Israeli municipality about 15 days earlier. One home is occupied by Mohammed Tawfiq Zaatra, his wife and three daughters, while a second is home to Khaled Zaatra and his wife. Tawfiq Zaatra and his eight-member family live in the third home. Under self-demolition, homeowners carry out demolition orders themselves to avoid demolition costs imposed by the municipality if its crews carry out the work, as well as additional fines or possible damage to neighboring homes.
