Palestinian students attend a debate ahead of student council elections at Birzeit University on the outskirts of Ramallah in the West Bank. STORYLINE: Birzeit student council elections represent a true presence of democracy and liberty among its students and all council members. The values of freedom and justice the elections uphold align with Birzeit's vision of the university as a platform for integrity and transparency in Palestine. Each year, the student blocs hope to win control of the 51-seat student council at the university. This year, the preparatory commission has announced that Wednesday, May 18, 2022, will be the date of the elections.
