STORYLINE: Beita is a Palestinian town in the Nablus Governorate in the northern West Bank located 13 kilometers (8.1 mi) southeast of Nablus. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the town had a population of 9,709 in 2007. There are many houses dating back to the Roman era. Over the past few weeks, Palestinian protestors have been demonstrating every day at the village of Beita in protest against building an Israeli settlement outpost, which had been evacuated by Israeli settlers, but the Israeli army kept its presence in the area. Israel has occupied the territories since the 1967 Middle East war. More than 600,000 Jews live in about 140 settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Most of the international community considers the settlements illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this. Footage by APAwire
