STORYLINE

On May 21, Egypt brokered a ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas-led militant groups that ended 11 days of tit-for-tat fighting between the two sides in the besieged Gaza Strip.

According to official Israeli and Palestinian sources, the fighting has left 254 Palestinians and 12 Israelis killed. However, the fighting also caused massive damages to the buildings and infrastructure in Gaza.

Gaza’s housing ministry said that 16,800 housing units had been damaged. Of those, 1,800 had become unfit for living and 1,000 were destroyed completely.
