May World Press Freedom Day is a day of support for media which are targets for the restraint, or abolition, of press freedom. It is also a day of remembrance for those journalists who lost their lives in the pursuit of a story.
Journalist Support Committee (JSC) said that it had recorded 16 cases of issuing an administrative detention order against imprisoned journalists in the occupation prison since the beginning of 2021.
It underlined that the policy of extending the detention of journalists is a serious violation of human rights principles, especially Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and constitutes a violation of the rules of international humanitarian law.
The committee called on international institutions working in the field of human rights or international legal institutions to impose international protection for journalists and media institutions from the repeated attacks of the occupation against them.
