APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Gaza - 28 April 2021. The head of Atlas for Studies and Research, Abd al-Rahman Shihab, speaks during a press conference to announce the results of a public opinion poll on the Palestinian elections
01.SOUNDBITE (Arabic) The head of Atlas for Studies and Research, Abd al-Rahman Shihab
STORYLINE
32.4% will vote for the "running as "Jerusalem is Our Promise" (Hamas) led by Khalil al-Hayya, list, 17.2% will vote for the "Al-Asifah" list (Fatah headed by Mahmoud Al-Aloul), 13.9% will vote for the "Future" list (Dahlan Movement), 8.6% will vote for the "Freedom" list (Al-Qudwa and Al-Barghouti) 4.1% will vote for the "People's Pulse" (Popular Front) list.
Polls indicate it would split the vote for Fatah, potentially paving the way for another major victory by Hamas. That increases the likelihood that Abbas will find a way to call off the first Palestinian elections in 15 years.
The Palestinian Authority is widely expected to announce delaying the Palestinian election on Thursday due to the failure of the Israeli authorities to respond to a Palestinian request to hold elections in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
