Palestinians wait to cross the Qalandia checkpoint between the West Bank city of Ramallah and Jerusalem, to attend the second Friday prayers in al-Aqsa mosque, during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. 01.SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Hamad Ali STORYLINE: Last night, clashes erupted in Jerusalem between right-wing Israeli extremists, Palestinian protesters and the police. The Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service said 32 Palestinians were wounded in the clashes, including 12 who were hospitalized. The Israeli police said in a statement that "hundreds" of far-right Israelis marched towards the Damascus Gate, a predominantly Palestinian area located in east Jerusalem's Old City. Police forces tried to separate between the march and dozens of Palestinians who protested against it. Clashes between Palestinians and police forces occurred since the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan last week. The Palestinians said the clashes were sparked by barriers placed by the police outside the Damascus Gate, where Palestinian typically gather during the Ramadan nights. Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it shortly later in a move never recognized by the majority of the international community. Footage by / APAwire
