A male and a female lion lie in the sand at a zoo after the female gave birth to two cubs two days earlier in Beit Lahiya town in the northern Gaza strip on 20 November 2013. The cubs' mother and father were smuggled into the Gaza Strip from Egypt four years ago to live in a Hamas-run public zoo. It is the first time in years that cubs are born in the Palestinian coastal enclave. Photo by Mohammed Talatene
