Pierre Krahenbuhl, United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Commissioner-General, speaks to media as he visits a United Nations-run school on the first day of a new school year in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip September 14, 2014. The school year was delayed for 3 weeks due to a seven-week conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Gaza militants. An open-ended ceasefire, mediated by Egypt, took effect on August 26. It called for an indefinite halt to hostilities, the immediate opening of Gaza's blockaded crossings with Israel and Egypt, and a widening of the territory's fishing zone in the Mediterranean.
