Egyptian Minister of Defense Abdel Fattah el-Sisi inspects a polling station during the referendum on the draft constitution, Cairo, Egypt, 14 January 2014. Egyptians began on 14 January to vote on a new constitution drawn up after the military ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in the wake of massive opposition demonstrations six months ago. Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist allies have called for a boycott of the referendum, saying it is being staged by an illegitimate "putschist" government. Liberal and leftist parties, as well as Egypt's state media, private sector broadcasters, and business groups have all pushed for a yes vote. Photo by Mohammed Bendari
