A Palestinian protester throws back a tear gas canister fired by Israeli security forces during clashes near Huwwara checkpoint, near the West Bank city of Nablus, 28 February 2013. Hunger strikes by Palestinians in Israeli prisons have sparked clashes throughout the West Bank. On 23 February, a Palestinian detained for hurling a rock that injured an Israeli died in custody, further fuelling Palestinian anger. Palestinian hunger striker Samer Issawi has been transferred from an Israeli prison clinic to a civilian hospital near Tel Aviv, amid concerns that his health was deteriorating, according to reports 28 February.
