Hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood supporters gathered in Cairo's Tahrir Square on 18 June to celebrate after the group claimed victory in Egypt's first presidential election since Hosni Mubarak was ousted more than a year ago. The Brotherhood reported on its website that its candidate Mohammed Morsi won 52 per cent of the voted in weekend elections, with ballots at 95 per cent of polling stations counted.
