Egyptian protesters throw stones to the army during clashes in Kasr al-Aini, Cairo, Egypt, 17 December 2011. According to media reports, the clashes, the worst in three weeks, erupted on 16 December after protesters accused the army forces of attacking one of them. More than 300 people were injured in the violence, according to government figures. Army forces 17 December set up a non-go zone near Tharir Square where the fighting raged for several hours on 16 December, reported state television. A major fire on 17 December gutted a library located near the parliament building. A small fire, meanwhile, erupted inside the nearby cabinet headquarters. The protesters had camped since late November outside the cabinet offices to prevent Egyptian Prime Minister al-Ganzouri from entering. They regard him as part of the Mubarak regime under which he served as prime minister in the 1990s. Photo by Ahmed Asad
