Masked Jewish settlers throw stones toward Palestinians in the West Bank village of Assira al-Kibliya, near Nablus Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011. Israeli settlers and Palestinian villagers threw stones at each other Tuesday, a day after Palestinian officials said settlers burned large areas of agricultural land and cut down several hundred olive, fig and almond trees. The latest friction came at a particularly sensitive time, with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas saying he is determined to seek U.N. recognition later this week for a state of Palestine.
