Palestinian Muslims walk towards the Israeli checkpoint of Qalandiya near the West Bank city of Ramallah on Aug. 5, 2011, before crossing into Jerusalem to attend the first Friday prayers of the holy month of Ramadan at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound. Israeli police deployed in force in the holy city after limiting access to Al-Aqsa, Islam's third holiest shrine which is also the holiest site for Jews, who refer to it as the Temple Mount because it was the location of the Second Temple, destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.
