A Palestinian protester climbs on an electricity pole to hang a national flag during a demonstration on February 24, 2010 on the outskirts of Gaza City against the military zone Israel created on Palestinian land, east of the city, as a buffer between its border areas and the Hamas-run Gaza Strip. Israel created the "security zone" during its 22-day military offensive into Gaza between late December 2008 and January 2009. Some 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed during the conflict, which followed unrelenting rocket-fire into Israel from the Palestinian enclave. Photo by Mohammed Othman
