Palestinian fishermen work off the coast of Gaza City in an effort to earn a living amid restrictions on fishing areas, security risks, damaged equipment and shortages of fuel and spare parts. SOUNDBITES: 0.1 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Nidal al-Daour, Palestinian fisherman STORYLINE: Palestinian fishermen work off the coast of Gaza City in an effort to earn a living despite difficult conditions facing the fishing sector since the outbreak of the war. Fishermen face restrictions on access to fishing areas, security risks including pursuit by Israeli naval boats, gunfire and arrest, as well as damage to boats and fishing equipment and rising costs and shortages of fuel and spare parts. Declining fishing activity, damage to related infrastructure, and continuing electricity cuts and fuel shortages have further reduced a source of income relied on by thousands of families in Gaza.
