RESTRICTION SUMMARY: APAwire CLIENTS ONLY SHOTLIST: APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Deir el-Balah, Gaza Strip, October 21, 2026. Displaced Palestinians protest outside the World Food Programme (WFP) office against cuts to food assistance for displaced families amid worsening humanitarian conditions and funding shortages. SOUNDBITES: 0.1 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Hani Mazhar, Representative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) 0.2 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Nabil Diab, Senior Official of the Palestinian National Initiative Movement STORYLINE: Displaced Palestinians gathered outside the World Food Programme (WFP) office in Deir el-Balah, central Gaza Strip, on October 21, 2026, to protest cuts to food assistance for displaced families amid deteriorating humanitarian and living conditions. On October 19, the WFP announced reductions in food and cash assistance due to funding shortages, lowering the number of beneficiaries from 1.6 million to 1.1 million. The agency also halved food rations and reduced the number of daily hot meals from 250,000 to 150,000. According to the WFP, approximately 1.4 million people in Gaza face acute food insecurity, including around 200,000 experiencing emergency levels. The agency warned that continued funding shortages could further worsen the humanitarian crisis and threaten access to essential food assistance for vulnerable families.
