Palestinians take part in a protest in solidarity with prisoners in Israeli jails, in front of Red Cross office in the West Bank city of Al-Bireh. 0.1 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Qaddoura Fares, President of the Palestinian Prisoners Club. STORYLINE: The Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails observed a one-day hunger strike as a first step in their struggle against repressive policies and in support of demands by other prisoners, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS). The prisoners’ Emergency Committee had issued a statement confirming that this step was taken to demand the immediate release of the cancer-stricken prisoner Walid Daqqa and to end the isolation of other prisoners, including senior faction leaders such as Ahmad Saadat, Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, as well as in rejection of the policy of administrative detention.
