RESTRICTION SUMMARY: APAwire CLIENTS ONLY SHOTLIST: APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Gaza – September 02, 2021. Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Zahar speaks during an interview with APA agency, at his home in Gaza city. 0.1 SOUNDBITE (in Arabic) Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Zahar. STORYLINE: Palestinian groups had announced that they were resuming protests at the separation barrier, aiming to press Israel to ease punishing restrictions on the isolated territory. Israel has maintained a blockade on the Gaza Strip since Hamas began governing Gaza in 2007 after winning Palestinian elections. There have been four violent confrontations between Israel and Hamas since, the most recent being May’s assault. The blockade restricts the movement of goods and people in and out of Gaza and has ravaged the territory’s economy and harming the population of two million. An Egyptian-mediated truce ended May’s Israeli assault on Gaza. As many as 260 Palestinians, including 67 children, and 12 people in Israel were killed in 11 days of fighting. Palestinian groups say Israel has yet to make good on its word. Earlier this month, Israel reached an agreement with Qatar and the United Nations to allow the regular transfer of cash payments to families in the impoverished Gaza Strip. Israel expanded the fishing zone off the Gaza Strip coast following a wave of Palestinian protests against Israel's restrictions on the impoverished enclave. Footage by / APAwire
