APAwire - APAwire CLIENTS ONLY, Rafah - 30 December 2020. Palestinians wearing face masks shopping inside the Mall of Arabia during the first day of its opening, amid the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), in Rafah in the southern of Gaza Strip, on December 30, 2020.
STORYLINE
Mall of Arabia is a shopping center located in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, and it is the largest shopping mall in Palestine. Living conditions are difficult with a quarter of the labor force unemployed and 24% of Palestinians living below the US$5.5 2011 PPP a day — even prior to the recent outbreak. A larger than expected decline in aid and a further spread of the COVID-19 virus pose significant downside risks.
