Palestinians look on as graduating police officers stand to attention during a ceremony at the police academy in Gaza City on June 13, 2012, making them the first batch of officers to graduate after four years of training under the Hamas leadership. Hamas has governed the Gaza Strip since June 2007, after it won a majority of seats in the Palestinian Parliament in the January 2006 Palestinian parliamentary elections, and then defeated the Fatah political organization in a series of clashes.
