Jews gather to read prayers and perform 'Tashlich,' meaning to 'cast off,' near a small stream of water overlooking the arab East Jerusalem village of Silwan, at sun down on the first day of Jewish New Year, or Rosh Hashanah, on 29 September 2011. The ritual involves involves symbolically casting off the sins of the previous year by tossing crumbs of bread into a body of flowing water.
